Maja Štefánčíková, Assistant Professor at AFAD, has curated a program for The Others Art Fair that highlights student performances that explore diverse artistic approaches and address contemporary challenges.

Jelisaveta Rapaic, We Are Open: Hair Cutting Therapy Sessions (2020 – ongoing)

Silvia Sviteková, Be off, 2018

The performance Be off explores the inner monologue within the context of a crowd, expressed through both words and movement. The audience witnesses a struggle between the inner world and the external environment, revealing the individual’s experience within the crowd. The piece touches on themes of individuality, collective consciousness, isolation, and shared experience.

Veronika Verešová, Tarot as Therapy: Finding a Way Out in Everyday Situations, 2024

Today, despite living in a highly technological world, interest in spirituality is growing. Tarot offers a way to connect with intuitive images that encourage personal growth and self-reflection. While it may not be a scientific tool, it can have a therapeutic effect, providing deeper understanding in times of uncertainty. Tarot thus becomes a path to self-discovery through a magical ritual. The resulting performance for Veronika Verešová draws from meditation, creating space for inner contemplation and stability..

Rozina Pátkai, The Slow Forward Manifesto, 2024

The artistic project is a multinational manifesto embodiment performance, where artists from various nationalities come together to express and transmit the essence of the “Slow Forward Manifesto” in their native languages. This powerful act goes beyond simple recitation, as the artists channel the manifesto’s meaning through their voices, bodies, and movements, turning the words into a living, collective expression of resistance against hurry and distraction. The manifesto is a declaration urging a return to focus, time, and authenticity in art and life.

Sunggu Hong, Hide and Seek with my Breath, 2024

How do we or can we change our movement, if we are all related to each other through our breath, which is constantly moving around us? – ‘I’ve never seen my grandmother, the mother of my father, because she passed away after my father was born. But sometimes I think that the breath she once breathed out might still be moving somewhere around me, which is actually a bit creepy, but also touching.

Seung-Yeon Jung, entwined alien, 2024

The performance portrays a record of ordinary life depicted abstractly, as a satire of people with a negative attitude towards anything new, different or simply anything not immediately understandable to them.

Yoko Gwen Halbwidl, So Young Park, Ein Stein fällt mir vom Herzen (una pietra cade dal mio cuore), 2024

“A stone falls from my heart” is a German saying which refers to the feeling of relief – this relief can be thought as the realization of one’s possibility to constantly change and become other forms of being. As the stones fall from our hearts, they become transmission objects which carry us into another life cycle.

Larissa F. Zekl, Nora Köhler, Leonie Bramberger, AWARD, 2024

The Köhler-Zekl-Barmsberger Foundation proudly awards prestigious prizes for extraordinary achievements. At their ceremonies, participants receive awards for their self-chosen accomplishments, celebrated with great fanfare and official recognition.

Nora Köhler, KRA –  Solving Conflicts!, 2024

KRA is here to solve the world’s biggest problems – because clearly no one else will. From our small Austrian village, KRA has mastered the art of solving conflicts. No crisis is too big for us. Support us and invest in global peace! A humored examination of paternalistic perspectives in contemporary European art, its questionable rescue narratives, and an essentially “apolitical politicization” of art.
